Actually, I read that a new law has been passed that obliges private emergency rooms to handle life threatening injuries/ conditions until the patient is stable and can be moved to a public facility. And since I'm commenting, I wish you would stop saying stuff like " it's pretty common to get stabbed or shot in Argentina", since the statistics of violent crime are pretty comparable to those of the US, which I assume is where you live (and I do too). I doubt you would tell people that such occurrences are common in the US, so why say that about Argentina? There are problem areas in Argentina just like there are problem areas in the US, but it is in NO way a dangerous country unless you compare it with Northern Europe (and I lived there for some years too). Argentina might not be the safest and there's a lot that can be improved, but it cannot , when measured against the rest of the globe, be considered a dangerous place. I'm tired of hearing foreigners say they were told terrible things about safety and crime by locals upon arrival and then came to find out that those statements were redefining the word "hyperbolic". And I want to make clear that I am not denying that bad things happen sometimes, but they don't happen nearly as often as one would think by watching the Argentine news. Having travelled extensively across the world, I can tell you that when a place is really dangerous, news do not report on the stabbings and shootings anymore...
